Overview
How we transformed this business
The Problem
A tour operator in 2018 with a very small budget, and a site that still had to be worth the company’s name and ours.
Our Approach
We took a WordPress theme and rebuilt it around the company’s identity rather than accepting what it shipped with. For that budget in that year it was the sensible route, and we have since stopped working that way.
The Outcome
A site carrying programmes across Egypt, Jordan, the Holy Land, multi-country packages and Hajj and Umrah, running continuously since 2018, for a founder who still refers clients to us. Some sections still carry the placeholder text and images the theme shipped with. The client asked us to leave them in place until his own copy and photographs are ready, so that is how the site stands today.
Project Story
From vision to launch — every step, intentional
- The friend owned a travel company and was looking for somebody to build it
- The introduction came from work we had already delivered for him
- The year was 2018
- We met Ahmed Othman, the founder, and heard the full requirements
- What was available to spend in 2018 was very small
- The site still had to be worth his company’s name and ours
- We selected a theme that could carry a tour operator’s content
- We reworked it to his identity instead of leaving the theme’s own look on it
- For that budget in that year, this was the sensible route
- Destinations split into Egypt, Jordan, the Holy Land and multi-country packages
- Hajj and Umrah given a section of its own
- Tour programmes published as their own content type
- Ready-made themes kept producing the same failures
- Breakage on update, code nobody here wrote, and limits at the worst possible moment
- We moved to writing templates from scratch, in code, for every project
What We Built
Performance & Delivery
Destinations Split the Way Travellers Ask
Egypt, Jordan and the Holy Land each get a section of their own, with two-country and three-country packages kept separate from single-destination trips, because that is how somebody planning a trip narrows it down.
Hajj and Umrah on Its Own
Religious travel sits apart from leisure tours. The person booking it is not weighing it against a Nile cruise, and the site does not ask them to.
Tour Programmes as Their Own Content
Each programme is an entry rather than a paragraph inside a page, so the company publishes a new itinerary without anybody rebuilding a layout.
A Theme Rebuilt, Not Installed
Colours, type and layout were reworked until the site read as the company rather than as the demo the theme shipped with. Installing a theme and handing it over is a different job from this one.
A Site the Company Runs Itself
The founder’s team has been publishing programmes on it since 2018 without coming back to us to change content.
Still Live Since 2018
The site has run continuously since it launched and still carries the company’s programmes today.
Behind the Results
Why this project succeeded
The Referral Came From Work, Not a Pitch
A client we already had made the introduction.
We were not competing for this project. An existing tourism client sent his friend to us on the strength of what we had already built for him. Most of the work in this portfolio arrived the same way, which is why what we deliver matters more than what we propose.
The Budget Set the Method, Not the Standard
Small budget, real site.
What was available in 2018 did not cover a site written from scratch. It did cover a theme reworked properly around the company’s identity, which is a different thing from a theme installed and handed over. The method got cheaper. The standard did not move.
We Stopped Working This Way, and We Say So
About five years later we dropped theme-based builds.
Ready-made themes kept producing the same failures: breakage on update, code nobody on our side had written, and hard limits arriving exactly when a client needed something new. We moved to writing templates ourselves for every project. This page is a 2018 project judged by 2018 standards, and leaving that out would misrepresent how we work now.
The Founder Still Sends Us Clients
The relationship outlasted the build.
Ahmed Othman has gone on recommending us to other people since 2018. A site still running eight years later, for a client who still refers work, is the argument for having done the job properly inside a small budget rather than cheaply.
